Couffignal High School Partnership

The restoration of our mechanical equipment requires expertise and technical equipment that we do not have. A teaching team from the Lycée Louis Couffignal agreed to look into our needs as part of an educational project for post-baccalaureate students.

Restoration of ammunition presses for 10cm ammunition

Two badly corroded and very incomplete presses were still at Battery 4 of the Fort of Mutzig. We recovered these buildings in 2022. The construction site began with a preliminary clearing of brush, we then installed construction site lighting and manufactured a transport sled. The floor of the battery was quite cluttered with rubble and other badly corroded wooden elements. Due to the heavy weight of these frames, only a sled could allow us to extract these machines from the depths of the battery. Their transport to the Lycée Couffignal was carried out by the technical service of the municipality of Mutzig, always at our side for operations requiring means of transport.

Two badly corroded and very incomplete presses were still at Battery 4 of the Fort of Mutzig. We recovered these buildings in 2020. They were transported by the technical service of the municipality of Mutzig to the Lycée Couffignal.

The next step was to disassemble all removable parts for cleaning and scanning. Technical drawings were then produced by the students.

Visit to the fort

Of course, we wanted to introduce the students and their teachers to the site and the technical context of the Fort of Mutzig – Feste Kaiser Wilhelm. A pedagogical dynamic and technical expertise, historical knowledge and a commitment to heritage are the ingredients of our project. The restored presses will be on display at the fort when they are fully restored.

Exhibition of technical drawings

An exhibition open from July to December 2023 presents various technical drawings made by the students of the Lycée.
